For some women it's jewelry or clothes, for me

it's stuff for the house. I'm gonna tell ya about some stuff I've bought and I'm using with glee and you know I don't get paid or compensated for these little product recommendations. I do this because I love y'all and want you to have the very best.

I'm all googly and thrilled with my new area rug. I defy anyone, any where to find better quality merchandise at a better price than at Natural Area Rugs. My house is 43 feet long and 12 feet wide; your basic bowling alley set up. To define the living room area we have been using an area rug. The first one I think we got at Target. It was sisal and the cats made short work of it and we couldn't clean it. Bleech. Then last year I found Natural Area Rugs; they were having a close-out sale and I got a 4x6 sisal rug with faux leather trim for $50, no shipping charges. Zeke had been having problems with dragging poop all over the house and we were constantly cleaning that rug - and it cleaned up real good. And as much as the cats thought it was a huge scratching post it was in perfect condition. Even so, we decided we should get a darker rug and a longer one, to define the space better. Guess what - there is no such thing as a 4x8 rug and anything wider than 4 feet won't work. Just by chance I noticed Natural Area Rugs does custom sizes - woo-hoo! So I just got my gorgeous, 4x8 sisal rug. It is so gorgeous and I paid a whopping $168, no shipping, no tax. Perfect in every way. I'm happy, happy. So if you need a particular size area rug, even a round one - do check them out. Or if you just want a natural fiber rug, take a look.

Onward to toaster ovens! Because it is just the two of us my toaster oven gets used constantly - for breakfast, lunch and dinner. About a year and a half ago my 12 year old DiLonghi toaster oven died, and my DiLonghi toaster died soon after. I checked out reviews and it seems DiLonghi quality had gone down over the years so I bought a Cuisinart toaster oven. What a piece of crap! Stay far, far away from this puppy - bad design (crumb tray is only accessible from the back); doesn't toast well - actually it doesn't do anything very well and it's a big mother to boot.

Anyway, I was broiling some lamb chops in the stupid thing and the fat splattered and shorted out the heating element. YAY - I get to buy a new toaster oven. I trolled through Consumer Reports and decided Breville was the best brand - I bought this ONE. I'm in love with a toaster oven - and yes, it does toast beautifully, and  it bakes and broils and it is super-duper wonderful - YES!!!! If you use a toaster oven on a regular basis, do yourself a treat and get this one, and if you have a separate toaster, you can trash that puppy because the Breville does toast just great!

Now this is strictly a lady thing - I have always had bad nails - thin, ridged, peel right off. Could never grow nails. My hands always looked like I was a ditch digger or something. I bought this stuff by Nutra Nail and dang it, but it works. Of course you actually have to use it twice a day - I've had it for a while and always forgot. Now I keep it on my desk, next to my computer, and you know what - my nails are growing, they are strong but flexible and I am one happy camper. Will my nails ever look as nice as when I had acrylic or silk wraps? No. BUT for the first time in my life my own natural nails are looking good.

Oh, yeah and I just bought new stair treads and doormat for the front stoop - gonna look real nice when I get them down - like every thing else in the house the steps are an odd size and no one makes 8" wide stair treads - believe me, I looked. I know more about rubber stair treads than any human should!

Whew! Lotta yapping but trust me, these products are super duper good. You know me, I am cheap frugal but fussy!

Great reviews Grace! I'm going to check them out! I've never used a toaster oven and don't quite understand what to do with one. But then again, I don't cook anything but I can make toast if that's all I'm making. If I try to add in scrambled eggs or something it gets too stressful because the toast pops up while I'm having to watch the eggs so can't get to the toast and it just stresses me out! :)

The toaster oven is great when there are only 2 people - I bake everything so if I'm making 2 chicken breasts do I really need to turn on the big oven? Or if I'm broiling 2 chops - again the broiler in the big oven? My husband warms his lunch sandwiches in the toaster oven, again not something he would do if he had to use the *big oven*.

I've never been good at getting all the elements of a meal to be done at the same time/right time...you just have to have the toast done before the eggs are...tho scrambled eggs do need constant watching...

OH, I love the reviews! I often wonder about products and if they work or not. Our local news does a weekly 'Does it Really Work?' segment for products. Wouldn't it be fun to have a blog where everyone can share their experiences with common household products and appliances?

Lisa, with all the product review blogs there must one or two or three hundred that do that. Personally I am not over fond of blogs devoted to product reviews because no matter what anyone says about being compensated I think the reviews are skewed. And then of course it's rarely anything I would use or want. Every day stuff - yeah, that would be a good idea. When someone who normally DOESN'T do paid reviews offers one then I know that is probably an honest review. Sharla of Beaded Tail just did a review of a kitty condo type thing and I am seriously thinking of getting one.

Nice reviews Grace. I saw one of your comments on another blog earlier and realized I haven't seen anything on your blog in a while. so I came looking for you :) Geesh I hope that doesn't make me sound like a stalker....lol
I could use some of that stuff for your nails. Mine are good for a while and then they start to crack and peel and I end up chopping them all off

The stuff actually does work but you have to remember to use it twice a day! I've got one nail that cracks from the cuticle to the tip, right down to the nail base and it seems to be healing up and that nail is actually growing. I can wear rings now and not be ashamed of how my hands look.

  7. I love furniture. Bad thing is that it is typically expensive and I have a small house. :( I like buying things for the house too.

I've always bought very inexpensive furniture so when I got tired of it (like after a year) I could pass it on and get new with no guilt. I made that mistake with this house - bought better quality, turns out the stuff doesn't really work - my "living room" sofa is perfect in size and configuration but it is really uncomfortable! Long narrow houses are a PITA to furnish!
